The drive was a long one, but we've finally arrived in San Diego, California! Actually, Monday was our first day here but we've been so busy enjoying the new climate and beaches and people! Absolutely love it here, it you haven't made it to California yet, you're really missing out!

We're staying in the historic Gaslamp Quarter in downtown, which is the heart of San Diego!There's just so much to see and do in San Diego alone it's amazing. From the Scientology building to Sea World to Mission Beach, everything is nearby. The atmosphere is uplifting and chance of scenery is just what I needed! From desert to greenery, can't beat California.

INFO: Call Center Work - What's required?

There's a lot of work at home jobs out there, and some of them are call center work. The great part is instead of commuting to work each morning, I only have to wake up, move to my computer desk and I'm ready to begin my shift. This saves me time on waking up early, having to get ready in the morning, spending money on gas to get to work, etc. Working at home has much more benefits than what appears on the surface, and we're going to cover all of them soon in future posts.

Now, with that being said, we're going to start with the basics. To be eligible for hire as an agent, you'll need to meet some computer, phone and other requirements. These vary slightly company to company, but here are the general rules:

General PC Requirements

• Reliable personal computer
• Pentium II 300 MHz or faster processor
• Windows XP
• Minimum 256 MB available RAM
• PC Sound with speakers
• DSL or Cable internet; no dial-up!
• Video Card: Standard - Recommended 8 MB video card

• Antivirus software with current and updated virus definitions
• Installed anti-spyware software

General Phone Requirements

• Landline home phone - ONLY!
• Headset with noise canceling microphone & mute button (the headset must be corded and plug into a corded telephone to allow you to work hands-free)
• No cordless phones
• No cell phones
• No VOIP
• No speakerphone
• No voicemail
• All special call features MUST be disabled (call waiting, caller ID)

General Home Office Requirements

• Quiet, personal workspace
• Free from distractions (TV, food, kids, etc.)
• Door that locks

OFF TOPIC: Obopay - Gone???

Obopay is (was?) a new service that allowed users to send and receive money, similar to PayPal, however they emphasized it's use with cell phones. Websites I've reviewed here, such as CashLagoon.com, offer Obopay as a method of payment, but earlier this week I received the following email:

So, it's just gone? I guess I was a little confused, I've never had something shut down while I was using it (except for my crappy computer). Obopay didn't tell me I was signing up for a trial of anything, so it was a big surprise when they said they're wrapping up their trial. Trial of what?! What's also odd is that the Obopay website still allows new users to register, and CashLagoon.com hasn't changed their payout methods. So what gives?

JOB: 1-800-Flowers.com - Love flowers?

1-800-Flowers.com has been in the floral business for more than 30 years, and they're currently seeking seasonal agents! The nature of the 1-800-Flowers.com workload is dependent upon the number of customers that are placing orders. You will serve as the first contact a customer has with the company, so it important that you have the utmost of professionalism! The pay rate for this position is $14 per hour!

Now I love taking calls for this company, I mean come on, it's flowers! All the customer is calling for is to place an order of flowers, and your job is to place that order and guide them through the process, adding suggestions of upsells to increase the overall order total. This job is not too stressful, and you'll have a lot of help along the way.

Like I said this is only a seasonal position, and 1-800-Flowers.com receives much more calls on holidays like Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Christmas than normal. They call these their "Gold Rush" days, and they need lots of agents to be ready to handle the large number of calls coming in. If you work these days, typically 2-4 before a major holiday and 1-3 days after the holiday, you're very likely to work a high number of hours.

On to the sad part: unfortunately the 1-800-Flowers.com opportunity is only available to some, not all. Currently, the company only hires applicants in certain states. If your state is listed below, you've qualified to move onto the hardware requirements and screening process.

REVIEW: A free laptop & more? - Are they a scam?

Surely you've seen one of these sites surfing around on the internet. For example, laptops.freepay.com offers its users the chance to receive a free laptop, and yes, it really is not a scam at all! Now, don't get me wrong, you're not going to just give them your address and expect to have a Mac Airbook in the mail next week. This does take a little bit of work, but it's worth it.

If you've ever used some of the programs I've talked about before like Fusion Cash or Cash Lagoon, you'll understand this company's concept. In order to receive your free product, you have to complete one "offer" (free trial, shopping, surveys, etc.), and then in addition to your completed offer, a certain number of your friends (referrals) must complete one offer as well. These offers allow Freepay, and many other companies, to offer free prizes and rewards (like flatscreens).

REVIEW: Public Opinion Research - Not so much.

Public Opinion Research, Inc., provides survey and market research on all sorts of topics, but mostly political campaigns. I applied and was accepted as an "Interviewing Agent" and proceeded to go through training. The training was pretty good, covered what needed to be for the job. It was completely self paced and was finished in a few hours.

What comes next is the less great part. The work. Er, the lack of work. There was none. There is none. Ever. Okay, not ever, but for the three or so months I've been part of Public Opinion Research I've received one chance to work. The "work" was a four hour shift. I'm guessing the company is just going through a drought of work right now. It baffles me because they're been around for over 30 years, there must have been more work in the past. Otherwise, I don't know how this company survives!

Today I still occasionally get emails about upcoming work one night, it's a joke now. I wouldn't recommend applying with Public Opinion Research if you want to make money!

OFF TOPIC: The Secret - Law of Attraction

It's almost the weekend, but it needs to be here quicker, so I'm taking a moment for an off topic post. Have you ever read The Secret? I haven't, I just watched the DVD, and from what I saw I really liked. The Secret is based on something called the Law of Attraction...

The Law of Attraction is a theory commonly associated with New Age and New Thought theories. It posits that one should never dwell on the negative, as the "metaphysical principle of life" is embodied in a "law of attraction": "you get what you think about; your thoughts determine your destiny."

Basically, from what I gathered, everything in the world happens for a reason, and our futures can be altered depending on our thoughts. A person with a very negative attitude will tend to have more problems and strain in their life, whereas an optimistic and positive person is more likely to get what they want and be successful. Now, take my interpretation lightly, but that's the gist of it. I know, sounds a little crazy, right?

Really it was an insightful and exciting documentary to watch. There's several experts, professionals and everyday people explaining their experiences with the Law of Attraction. It's one of those things you watch that make you stop and think, "is this crap real?" and I honestly don't know what to think. There's explanations and scientific proof, but still it's a crazy idea. Overall it was a great watch, really gets your mind going and open to new ideas.

Read or watch The Secret as soon as you can!

JOB: West at Home - Work in your pajamas!

WestatHome.com is a work at home telecommuting job where you would be contracting call center work. Just like LiveOps and Alpine Access, West offers everyday people the chance to work from their home taking inbound calls.

Currently, West pays per minute of talk time, usually at $.17 per minute. This rate can increase to $.20 per minute or more for late night or early morning shifts. What makes West different from the rest is the fact that you're guaranteed minimum wage! Meaning, even if you only take one call lasting 2 minutes, you would make your states minimum wage for the time you actually worked. This is very convenient, especially if there is a slow day.

With West, you are also taking direct response calls for infomercials and TV advertisements. There are opportunities for growth to other "lines" (projects for different businesses), where you'd be taking calls for a different line of work. I really enjoy working for West, there's support everywhere and the pay is nice!

CASH: FusionCash - Best free cash site around!

FusionCash.com is by far one of THE BEST free money websites I've tried. Every month I've used Fusion Cash, I've made over $100! Now, that may be little to some, but once you see how easy is it you'll want a piece too! Just for filling out some surveys or trying a product I earned over $130 so far for the month of February! All this money making is done in my spare time and you can bet I don't have to break a sweat!

What also attracts me so much to Fusion Cash is their fast and reliable crediting system. Their offers credit quickly, and allow you to cashout at $10. Cash Crate also offers a point based system for doing things you normally do online, like shopping.

JOB: Alpine Access - Take calls, hourly pay!

Alpine Access is one of THE best telecommuting jobs around. Similar to LiveOps, Alpine Access contracts at home agents to take calls for various businesses including credit card customer service, airline reservations and more. What makes Alpine so great is the fact that they pay hourly, so even if you're not on a call, you're still being paid! Pay rates vary, but average $8-$12 per hour, plus any available incentives.

The recruitment process for Alpine is very strenuous and in fact, they only hire 2% of applicants. From the training to production, you are able to work right from home, right from your own computer. This is especially helpful for stay at home moms, disabled persons or anyone else that wants to break free from their typical desk job!

LiveOps is fantastic opportunity in the work at home field. You've probably called some 1-800 number customer service in the past, right? Well, what you might not have known is that some companies send these calls to people like you and me, working right from their home! That's right, when you call to order the next greatest fitness product, you might be talking to someone sitting at their house in front of a laptop.
